Asian Art Museum Receives Three Chang Dai-chien Paintings

Recently, the Asian Art Museum, committed to bringing Asian culture and art to everyone, received three works from Chang Dai-chien, made during his time visiting California in the 1970s. These paintings were gifted to the museum by the family of Yao Ke, the artist’s longtime friend, a well-known writer and scholar.

The paintings Include two framed landscape pieces: “Thatched cottages at cloudy mountains” and “Traveling on remote mountains.” Both were created in 1972. Accompanying them is “Bamboo,” a botanical rendering that Chang also created in the same year. At present, the Asian Art Museum is showing “Traveling on remote mountains” in the exhibit called “Chang Dai-chien: Painting from Heart to Hand.”

With this gift of the three pieces, along with other recent acquisitions of Chang’s work, the Asian Art Museum has the largest collection of Chang Dai-chien pieces outside of Asia. Most of the museum’s collection is on display at the Chang exhibit.
